Is 2023 the year you decide to stick to your goal to become a phlebotomist? This is a rewarding, fast-paced career with tons of potential for growth.
If you’re on the fence, read on. Today, we’re sharing four key reasons to pursue this job path, and the perks you can expect when you do.
1. Great Job Security
The number one reason to enroll in phlebotomy classes is the benefit of job security!
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates that this industry will grow 10% between 2021 and 2031, which is a higher rate than other professions. The Bureau also predicts that around 21,500 new jobs will open in this field every year.
While some careers might feel short-lived, this isn’t the case if you become a phlebotomist. You can rest assured that there will be many job opportunities available, no matter when you start.
2. Opportunities to Connect
Would you consider yourself to be a people person? If so, it’s smart to look into your phlebotomy certification. This career allows you to work and interface with a variety of different individuals, including patients, physicians, and other medical professionals.
All ages of patients require bloodwork at some point, so you’ll have the opportunity to visit with children, adults, and the elderly alike. This keeps your day interesting and allows you to grow your skill sets.
3. Sense of Reward
If you’re looking for a rewarding career, phlebotomy school can lead you to one. Every day, you’ll help patients who need your services the most. Blood work is often the first step in helping physicians secure a diagnosis, which leads to more effective and successful treatment plans.
As you draw blood, you can help patients overcome their fear of needles. You can also comfort and reassure them throughout the process, becoming their voice of reason and support. While your visit with them might be brief, you have the chance to make a lasting impact with every interaction.
4. Accessible Certification
Are you interested in pursuing phlebotomy, but worry about how long the training and certification process will take? Don’t be. Today, there are many different resources that can put you on the fast track toward this career.
At the National Association of Phlebotomy Technician Professionals (NAPTP), we can help you prepare for and take an online proctored exam to achieve your certification. The only pre-requisites required to sit for the exam include:
- At least 65 live blood draws in a two-year period or
