Do I Need to Renew My NAPTP Phlebotomy Certification?

If you hold an NAPTP® Phlebotomy Technician certification, renewal is part of keeping that NAPTP® credential current. The renewal process is separate from the eligibility requirements used when someone first registers for the national certification exam.

How NAPTP® renewal works

For the standard NAPTP® Phlebotomy Technician renewal, the process is designed to be straightforward:

  1. Attest to your experience. The renewal form asks you to confirm that you have experience in the field.
  2. Complete renewal registration. Pay the current renewal fee shown on the official renewal checkout page.
  3. Take the renewal exam. Complete the NAPTP® renewal exam as part of the renewal process.

You do not need to upload blood-draw logs, proof of work hours, or CEU documentation as part of the standard NAPTP® Phlebotomy Technician renewal process.

Initial certification requirements are different

Requirements used to register for an initial NAPTP® Phlebotomy Technician National Exam should not be reused as renewal requirements. Candidates seeking an initial certification should review the current NAPTP® exam eligibility page.

Existing NAPTP® certificants should use the dedicated renewal registration page instead.

What if you move to another state?

NAPTP® certification renewal and state authorization to work are separate issues. State licensing, registration, training, or certification requirements can vary and may change over time.

If you move or plan to work in another state, check the current requirements directly with that state’s official health or occupational-licensing authority and with prospective employers. Do not assume that renewing an NAPTP® certification automatically satisfies a state’s legal requirements, and do not assume that moving states automatically requires you to repeat the NAPTP® certification process.

Do I need continuing-education proof to renew?

Not for the standard NAPTP® Phlebotomy Technician renewal process described here. Continuing education may still be useful for professional development, employer requirements, or other credentials, but NAPTP® does not require you to submit CEU proof as part of this standard renewal.

What if my certification has already expired?

If your certification has already expired or you are unsure which renewal path applies to your account, use the current NAPTP® renewal page or contact NAPTP® before purchasing. Avoid relying on an older article or another certification provider’s renewal rules.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to submit proof of blood draws for renewal?

No. Standard NAPTP® Phlebotomy Technician renewal does not require blood-draw documentation.

Do I have to submit proof of work hours?

No. The renewal process uses an experience attestation rather than requiring you to upload proof of work hours.

Is the renewal exam optional?

No. The renewal exam is part of the standard NAPTP® renewal process.

Ready to renew? Review the current fee and complete registration on the NAPTP® Phlebotomy Technician Renewal Exam page.
